Last 2013 Workday and Lunch

(By Kerry Oates)
Our final work day for 2013 went off without a hitch on Saturday 30 November, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. We started off by continuing some tasks from the previous session, weeding, spot spraying, pruning, lawns mowed, all paths swept, charcoal removed, debris cleared from the main stream and opening up a new vista into the forks of the “koaro stream” tributary near the Douglas Grove.

We had a really good turnout of 22 people, and were joined by Kristina Thompson of DOC who has now taken a full time role as project manager, and has been working with us and Ngati Rangiwewehi on the Koaro Restoration Project in conjunction with Fish & Game and the Bay of Plenty Regional Council.

Our inaugural life members, Barry and Lynn Menzies planted a Kauri tree in recognition of their milestone, and enjoyed many photos taken for the web site and their own posterity (see blog post).

At the close of the work session we all congregated for our traditional end of year luncheon, generously hosted by Cherry and Jerry Douglas and all enjoyed a cool drink or two in a great relaxed and social ambience.
Following a sumptuous meal, a few brief speeches were made in recognition of the efforts of key members in furthering the aims of the society, the welcoming of two new members, and of course to our beloved patron Ynys Fraser who joined in the festivities with us and also spoke some words.

We take a small break now, apart from lawn mowing and our predator trapping project (which never rests), and will return to more maintenance and enhancement duties on 22nd February 2014.

In the meantime, please check out our web site (http://hamurana-springs.co.nz/) and “like us on face book”.

We’ve had a lot of very positive feed back about the web site lately and I take this opportunity to thank our webmaster Herma Snel and Vice President Lorraine Parker, for their efforts in keeping it up-dated regularly with loads of features, information, and so many awesome photos.

Do come and join us, it’s a great social function with huge community spirit, and a great way to meet people and make new friends.

Contacts are; Kerry Oates (President) 3322 975, Lorraine Parker (Vice President) 349 3443, or drop us an email via our website, we’d love to have you along…
